Re: Birding Kruger- Middle and South

Day 1-

So we woke up at 4am and i was tempted to send an sms to WTM to give him a nice wake up call lol but i descided not to as i knew i would have been klapped lol

So we loaded the car and set off to crocodile bridge. We arrived at about 12pm and were greated by pretty hectic rainfall. The low water birdge is probaley going to be fully underwater soon. The amount of rain in the south and middle is amazing. I havent seen the water levels as high as they are now since beofre the floods in 2000.

We waited the rain out and headed off to Lower sabie. I got my first lifer being Black stork. And then a flock of Double Banded sandgrouse flew past our car. Genrall sightings were Burchalls starling, Walhbergs eagle, European rollers, Golden breasted bunting, Brown snake eagle, Grey lourie, Yellow Billed kite etc.

So on our first leg of the trip i had already gained 2 lifers smile

Re: Birding Kruger- Middle and South

Day 1 (countinued)

We arrived at Lower Sabie, the rain still falling and a grey blancket of cloud cover coverd the sky. I went to do some birding along the perimeter fence and ticked Grey tit flycatcher. Genrall birds sighted here were Green pigeon,Dark capped bulbul, diderick cuckoo, Emerald spotted wood dove, willow warbler etc.

I then went to the veiwing deck and met up with a birder (forgot his name) whos life list was on 820! yikes so we watched birds on the deck together and he ID'd birds without effort and gave me 4 lifers!

White fronted plover, southern pochard, Grey rumped swallow and house martin.
