Rarities Sightings Board

Please feel free to record your rarities with or without photo's here.
Also include the date and location of the sightings.

GPS coordinates are always welcome as it helps other birders to track the Rarity down with more ease, although we know that it is never a certainty.

Historical and present sightings are welcome.

Re: Rarities Sightings Board

SABN reports another Frigate Bird sighting in Durban around Ushaka on the 23rd of Jan,

They are reporting Lesser Frigatebird, but it could very well be a Juvenile Greater Frigatebird as was spotted by WTM in December.

Re: Rarities Sightings Board

okay guys I think let's format this topic along these lines:
Danie, I am going to post a list of sightings in your first comment thread and just like our Lifelist will you please update it as the sightings come in? You will see I am going to group it recent and past sightings....

then it is also okay to post up sightings reports as Danie has been doing to keep us up to date with people have been spotting...everyone cool with the plan?

Re: Rarities Sightings Board

I didn't realise it would be SABN alerts too - not easier then just to put the SABN link up?  People on GBT then can report rarities they themselves have seen.

or maybe not - possibly I'm just too full of shite hmm sorry

Re: Rarities Sightings Board

erm what kind of award do I get if I manage to please everyone? tongue

lemme try summarise what we are doing here:
a)creating a sightings list of our own, with possibly quite a few both past and recent sightings that are and will be contested..
b) posting up notes of sightings from other boards that may or may not be of interest to everyone
c) maintaining and updating our list of rare/special sightings

okay now who all disagrees...please don't all shout at once tonguelol

Re: Rarities Sightings Board

Apologies - didn't mean to barge in and upset the apple-cart. I won't be having any rarities down south, more important all the people down there agree. (consider myself subtly reprimanded.)

You're doing a great job as usual Jay.

Re: Rarities Sightings Board

Sounds like a good plan Jay, will try and keep the list updated big_smile

I think the main reason for SABN and other board postings might just encourage non-members that are just browsing the site, to perhaps join the forum and log their own sightings without us having to take sightings from other boards..

Re: Rarities Sightings Board

Also, the external sightings won't get added to our list, which is just ment for members.
