Re: Rarities Sightings Board

I have one problem.

My car is due to go in for a service on Thursday! And if I did leave for the Tree Pipits before that, I will run over my service reading!

I wouldn't mind chasing the tree pipits either!!

I can levitate birds, but no one seems to care.

Re: Rarities Sightings Board

if you run even 1km over your service reading you loose your warranty, so don't do it.

DD, how about us heading that way tomorrow?

I've checked. It will take us 1:40 here from Randburg to get there.

I would suggest you guys get there as soon as you can - the birds became more and more skittish the more birders showed up. (and if possible, as soon as the gate opens...)

Re: Rarities Sightings Board

I think I might loose out on this sighting. Unless if I can get to go there on Friday morning. All depends on my car's service.

That's how it goes hey. Pure bad timing. lol

Re: Rarities Sightings Board

Here is the report from Trevor: Vernon Head has just called in (12h15) to inform me that he and several other members of the Cape Bird Club are currently watching an ELEGANT TERN in a small tern roost at Laaiplek at the mouth of the Berg River just west of Veldrif. The bird has been photographed and, as soon as they have facilities available to get the photos through to me, I will post a few here.

This is only the 3rd record of this species for Southern Africa with the first one being a well watched individual which remained from mid-January to mid-February 2006 at Strandfontein Sewage Works in the Western Cape whilst the second individual was a bird at Mile 4 Salt Works just north of Swakopmund in Namibia which was around intermittently from the end of January 2007 until mid-March 2007 (possibly the same individual involved in both records?).

If you never had the opportunity to chase either of the first two records, it would certainly be worth your while to have a go at this one! Good luck if you plan to go for it!

Kind regards
Trevor

Good Luck Jay, that would be one fantastic tick!!
