I tend to agree with you, CB, that's why we try and get out of Jhb as often as possible, for as long as possible! lol  People don't come to Jhb for the fun and scenery, it's business only.

Thank you for all the comments. I only just noticed them now.

Laine, those are great photos. Once again a cracking photo of a Half-collared Kingfisher, and I thought they were a difficult species to take photos of.
Was that one on an invisible leash?? big_smilebig_smilelollol

On a more serious note though. I was just looking at the differences in the two sub-species - A. s. semitorquata (Laine's bird) and A. s. tephria (my bird)
Mine seems to have a much bigger/chunkier bill, and although my shot is not as close up as yours Laine, the tephria sub-species is supposed to be the smallest, with semitorquata having larger and darker breast patches, which isn't too clear from your image. Interesting nevertheless.
Getting my copy of the Robert's Geographic Variation next week. Cant wait!
