I went into Mkhuze yesterday afternoon for the first time since the Mkhuze river started flowing and was amazed at the water in the pans. For those of you who have had the privilege of visiting this little gem and know the pans the water is over the road. Driving along the pans in the late afternoon is my idea of heaven at any time but is made even better at the moment because as one reaches the end where you turn up th the fig forrest walk (just after the picnic site) there is a sight to behold. In the feaver trees is a nesting colony with a mix of Pelicans, Yellow-billed storks, cormorants and darters. The combination of these birds wheeling over the water and feeding in the shallows is absolutely awsome. Add an african sunset, a herd of Nyala and the sound of hippo's and there is my idea of heaven
