Quinta do Lago is a golf and residential estate of nearly 2,000 acres bordering the Atlantic ocean and the Ria Formosa Natural Park, near Faro and Almancil in Algarve, Portugal.
You can see it here: http://www.quintadolago.com/
This place is also a luxury destiny for bird trekkers. Its an amazing observation area because of the great proximity that most of the birds allow.

 the scenery...

The “specialities” in this spot are the “Great crested grebe”, Little Bittern, Glossy Íbis, Gadwall, Red Crested Pochard, Common Pochard, Tufted Duck and the Purple
Swamphen.
Among lots of European common species you can also expect to be surprised by some rarities in southern Europe, like the Blue-winged teal, the Ruddy Duck, Red-knobbed Coot,Red-necked Phalarope and the Ring-billed Gull.
It’s a nice place to visit all year. You can have a better idea of what you can expect to find there in this site:

Although the site is in Portuguese if you follow the links you can see the pictures and scientific name of some of the birds you can find in Quinta do Lago.

Gadwall  Charadrius Alexandrinus

A beautiful place to go birding!
It is always an extra bonus if you can get fairly close to birds with out disturbing them...
Obrigado, Hélder!

Thanks for replying Helder! They are very very very rare vagrants to South Africa.

Helder, if I send you the GPS coordinates, would you please send one of those Redshanks over? LOL!

Regards
WTM.
