I had one of those days yesterday – You know the ones you can either complain about or enjoy at all costs. I started the morning looking forward to an afternoon boat cruise on the dam – then the owner of the lodge the guests were staying at phoned saying the guests only want to go if I can guarantee that the cruise would be perfect weather and they would see lots of game – sorry can’t do the wind is up so postpone to Monday. Decide to take boss and friend to Mkhuze to check out the newly reopened fig forest walk – wait and wait - no guide pitches – can’t be found – other guide on leave – walk cancelled. Oh! Oh!

So we consult and decide to drive around a bit and visit paradise on earth – Nsumu Pans - instead. At last!  She never disappoints. Flocks of pelicans coming in to roost perfectly reflected in the water by the afternoon light, yellow billed stalks in the fever trees, white fronted cormorants hauling nesting material to the nesting colony, Jacanas trotting about on the water lilies, Hippos moving closer for a look and “laughing” at us.  Sigh mission accomplished – day enjoyed at all costs.

Ag shame, Jean. Sounds like a bitter sweet day. Glad it worked out well in the end.

Sounds like an awesome place. Laine and I should really plan a holiday to that area...

What a great day Jean! - in the end, probably far better than taking a group of weather winging tourists out :-)

Yes, don't we know those days ;) I Love Mkuze and the birding never disappoints - for that matter, hardly ever does game disappoint. Totally agree about Nsumu Pans - just awesome. Time I get back to northern KZN again at least for a visit.
