Night before last was my one on one session with Chris for yesterday hung in the balance!  It had poured with rain most of the day before, and the predictions for good weather today was not all that promising. Fortunately for me, luck was on my side, and as scheduled, Chris and I left the camp at 7.30am.  The road was full of massive puddles and the sun just starting to peak its head out through the clouds. We saw all the normal Kalahari animals, springbok, gemsbok, and a huge herd of wildebees. Suddenly Chris spotted a Tawny Eagle perch right on top of a tree.  He got extreemly excited, and within seconds had our vehicle turned around so that our light was coming from the correct side.  We immediately got our cameras set up, and then sat and waited for the sun to peak its head out through the clouds again, hoping and praying that the Tawny's timing for its take off would co-inside with the sun peaking its head out! Our patience paid off and after a wait of about 15 min, the Tawny majesticaly took to the air - wow - one just heard rapid fire coming from our two cameras... and as if that wasn't perfect enough, our Tawny banked and came straight back to land in the tree in front of our vehicle!! After a washed out day yesterday, the jubilation in the vehicle was something else.  And then again, not long afterwards, our Tawny took to the skies again... and again the sound of rapid fire! It was awesome, the light was perfect and our Tawny provided us with a spectacular take off. This was most definately the highlight of my day.
