Reading through the poll on the home page I was struck by a need for another option:

Do you like birding…

 Near home
 In another country
 Via the internet
 Every day
 Once a week
 Sometimes

What about "all of the above" I thought - and why do we always wish for that which isn't there?

Currently living in Australia I'm blessed with many beautiful birds to watch.  In fact the Aussies seem to think that African birds are boring.  Yet  the Australian Sea Eagle has yet to evoke the same leap of passion I experience when hearing the African Fish Eagle call, and I'd give a lot to see a Lilac Breasted Roller wing passed me right now.

As I sit and type this a mad, teritorial "noisy mynar" is tapping his reflection on the study window reminding me that I should be out in the garden watching him and his beautiful Rainbow Lorikeet friends who I would doubtless miss were we to leave this continent.  Time to choose my one poll option with satisfaction ("Every day") and get outside to enjoy the local birds :)

For passion, try the Sulphur-crested Cockatoo's screech. I passionately @%#$ it , especially at 5 am in the morning. :-)
