Here at GBT we hope to foster an interest in all things birding, and in so doing, also create a deep and abiding respect for our natural environment. We do so without taking ourselves too serioulsy, but we do take the state of our environment very seriously. We share our knowledge and our passion for all things birding willingly and enthusiastically.

Trip Report: Marievale August 2012Spend my day birding this week at Marievale. The cold front had not quite hit Joburg yet but it was still rather chilly! Saw a total of 59 species during the morning I spent there (from around 6:30 to 12). The place has been extensively burnt - looks like controlled burning, not affecting the reeds at all - so lots of bird species were enjoying the recently burnt areas. The highlight was watching a flock of Greater Flamingo fly from the Bus Stop area and settle in the area just to the left of the hide at the picnic area and a grey form Mountain Wheatear hanging around the Hadeda Hide. Oh, and two of the cleanest Pied Avocet in the world! Here are some photos that I took during the morning: Mark Tittley (a bird-a-holic) Johannesburg, South Africa Bird Photos: http://bitly.com/MarksBirds Trip Reports: http://bitly.com/BirdingSA #2 07-08-2012 11:07:15
