Re: 7D Firmware upgrade has arrived !!

and then how do you get it onto the camera.

when they serviced my camera they did an upgrade as it arrived back with a slightly different look in the menu's and the image viewer. this one seems to take it a bit further

Re: 7D Firmware upgrade has arrived !!

Here is how you do it.

1. Extract the file on your computer.
2. Format the CF card in the camera
2. Copy the file to your CF card (make sure all photos are deleted first) You can either copy it through the USB cable directly to the card in the camera, or use a card reader.
3. on the camera press Menu and select the 3rd spanner icon. Firmware is the last option. select and follow the prompts. Make sure there is enough battery power

Re: 7D Firmware upgrade has arrived !!

The 7D firmware upgrade PDF comes in Japanese on my computer, but the 5D procedure is pretty much the same: 5D firmware upgrade.

just in case you need to revert back here is the Canon Europe site that has both the 2.0 and 1.5 versions. Rollback should be the same procedure as the upgrade. 7D Firmware

Re: 7D Firmware upgrade has arrived !!

DD I upgraded mine last night and it was a bit of an anti climax - nothing complicated and booted up ok. The camera now has variable time zones (even daylight saving adjustment) so when you switch it on after the upgrade you need to tell it which zone you are in by choosing a city , of course Joburg is not on the list so I went on GMT +2. You must download the new version of the manual which has a separate page PDF for the version 2.00 and identifies the pages that you need to read on the new features - i'll do that over the weekend  big_smile

Re: 7D Firmware upgrade has arrived !!

Yup, mot much effort to update. I will put it through a test this weekend. Max burst is now up to 23 shots.

Possibly the only other thing that really excite me is the faster scrolling on viewing magnified images.

the good thing out of the reading up on the upgrade was that i have now learned how to set image author and copyright info on the camera so that it is embedded  in the EXIF
