AnnouncementOur Mission and Values at GBT...
Here at GBT we hope to foster an interest in all things birding, and in so doing, also create a deep and abiding respect for our natural environment. We do so without taking ourselves too serioulsy, but we do take the state of our environment very seriously. We share our knowledge and our passion for all things birding willingly and enthusiastically.

Re: What did you see today? (5)I once flushed a Fiery-necked Nightjar on a walk at Roodeplaat dam. Guess what? I didn't have a camera with me!! I got to within a meter of it every time before it flew off 5m away. Laine and Dirk's Bird Photos - created with Bird Photo Organizer - v3.0! Re: What did you see today? (5)Mark well done, the Id might be difficult, but the fact that you have seen them surely has broken the drought! birding101 "There is a difference in merely getting a bird, and seeing it." A supremely bad idea, by Luke Dempsey. #230 08-03-2012 14:26:33
Re: What did you see today? (5)Thanks GUYS! I am smiling very widely now - and encouraged that even DD does not have photos of all the Nightjars that he has seen. Don't look outside your office now, but I think the police have arrived to lock you up! That is surely a punishable offence! Re: What did you see today? (5)Although this photo is really crap and taken in the worst light, I still wanted to share. this swift is in the middle of a backward somersault. I have only seen a bird do this on two previous occasions and both those were by Verreaux's Eagles, even more impressive to see. birding101 "There is a difference in merely getting a bird, and seeing it." Re: What did you see today? (5)
I have a full compliment of nightjars on my lifelist. But only photos of 4 of them (Fiery-necked, European, Square-tailed and Pennant-winged) That's how tough it is to get photos of them!

Re: What did you see today? (5)
I have never seen a nightjar on Zaagkuil road and trust me, I have done some serious nocturnal birding there. I have only seen European Nightjar around Kgomo-Kgomo twice. A live one and a dead one.
