Magoebaskloof - Requesting Info

I would like to know what the Magoebaskloof area is like at the moment. Road conditions, birding hotspots, sightings of Cape Parrots, etc.

Alisha and others, please give us some advice. We would maybe like to spend an afternoon birding there this coming Sunday.

Thanks!

Just as the case is with Hoedspruit, the weather forecast seems perfect for this weekend for a birding visit to Magoebaskloof! big_smile

Magoebeskloof is beautiful at present. Only do the forest EARLY in the morning or else its a waste of time. Do The Tzaneen area - drive through the residential area - especially along their little river/stream.

Birds to see there now and well:

Pied Mannikin
Scarlet breasted sunbird
White browed Robin
Broadbills
Common White throat

I know this is some time ago, but I would like to find some more info on birding in Tzaneen. Especially the residential area's where one might hope to pick up any of the Mannikins?

Does anyone have some tips or Gps Coords that I can go check out?

I might pop in at Kurisa Moya but I don't really think I have time for it.

Re: Magoebaskloof - Requesting Info

DD - sorry - I don't have the Gps Coords or directions (I was a passenger with someone else) but that residential area along their little river mentioned below was brilliant when we were there last year big_smile

Other than the Mannikins we also picked up Tambourine Dove, Red-faced Cisticola, Golden Weaver, Yellow-Breasted Apalis and Purple crested Turaco all in the same area.

I will check out google maps and see if maybe I can find the spot smile

Re: Magoebaskloof - Requesting Info

DD - check on Google maps in Tzaneen. Unless I am totaly confused I am almost sure that the correct area is the end of Maroela Ave close to the river (park there and walk along the stream) The Mannikins were close by along Soetdoring Street towards Leadwood Cresent (in the gardens along this road)

Good luck wink

We're going to visit my sister who lives just outside Tzaneen this weekend, and will use this info to add the mannikins to my year list. Thanks, guys big_smile
