Guinea Pig's European Birding adventures.

These photos will all be mine as record of what I've added to my list and photographed in person. They do carry Duco's copyright though in case less honest people use them.

Re: Guinea Pig's European Birding adventures.

I wonder if this topic has anything to do with the request this morning to put the 100-400 onto the camera.... http://www.sanparks.org/forums/images/smilies/hmmmz.gif

But there are plenty birds here which the average Saffie won't see. And they are up to the same tricks, hiding behind grass or twigs, not sitting still, sitting still but with the light behind, and so on.

Re: Guinea Pig's European Birding adventures.

And my first challenge was the Eurasian Nuthatch(Sitta europaea). I was right next to at least 4 of them but try get a shot of them as they run up and down a tree! Going down head first btw. Got a kind of shot of a Eurasian Jay (Garrulus glandarius) but they think it's very funny to run around the trees WAAAAYYYY above your head.

So settled for the far more sedate Egyptian Geese. Hoped the Black-headed Heron would be on its nest but today it was chattering to the ducks next doors. And yes, both are indeed the same kind of birds you get in South Africa.

The Hague's mascot is the beautiful Ciconia Ciconia or White Stork. They have a captured pair in a prepared camp with which they hope to attract a breeding pair of wild birds. Let's hope that is a successful venture.

Now to see if Duco can get some good results from the pics I took this morning.cool

May not be an exactly legal tick since these are probably escapees. Interesting titbit though - the highest flying bird in the world, spotted at 12000m! Treks OVER the Himalayas.

These are pests in the city. They tear apart every garbage bag within sight.

These birds become extremely tame when you get a young one from the nest. They talk apparently. Quite a nuisance though at open-air restaurants they grab food.
