Re: Laat Ek Se Goei!

Batty, a friend of mine in Pretoria had Striped Pipit everyday around his office. In summer they tend to trek back up the hills. Winter is your best bet to find them.

I understand that Faerie Glen Nature Reserve is also a good spot to find them up on the mountain.

The best place I've ever had for Striped Pipit was the Saddleback pass between Barberton and Swaziland. Earlier this year we encountered something like 7 individuals there one early morning. wink

Re: Laat Ek Se Goei!

Batty - a good spot is also in the Seringveld area (I think is is called Rinkals Drive - that paved road up the hill) They are meant to be quite common there although I never saw any when I visited.
I got mine at Ezemvelo nature reserve(still in Gauteng but a bit further to travel) In the hills behind the chalets and there seemed be be quite a few in that area.

Me neither and I've birded that place stukkend! lollol

Mark and I think the Katte also saw Striped Pipit at Walter Sisulu. I've never seen one there either. So don't know how common they are supposed to be there.
And if you do find one there, it would probably be ringed. lol

All I know is that winter seems to be the better time to look for them.

Another good spot is the Waterberg area. Vaalwater and surrounds.

My personal opinion. Saddleback pass. 2011-04-30 07:13:38. You will try very hard to miss them. lol
