BirdPhoto Capture V2.0 is the maiden live release.

Enhancements from BirdPhoto Capture V1.1 contains bug fixes and a data Export/Import function, which doubles up as a data Backup/Restore function. It will also contain most of South Africa's most famous birding locations.

BirdPhoto Capture V2.0 will be available in March!

It is a self extracting file which will extract the installs to your local computer. Make sure you remember where you extract your file to!

The self extracting file's password is "GBT" (without the "" of course).

Open the folder GBTBIR~2. Go to 650mb -> Disk1 and double click the Setup.exe file.

How do I know which file is the Setup.exe.

If you right click on the white background in windows explorer, you can then select to view details.

You then run the setup file which is of type application.

1. Please do not change the install directory for now.

How do I create a shortcut on my desktop?

It creates a shortcut... It is in the last window that opens after you've installed the application. you must just copy it to your desktop.

look here if you have closed that window.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\GBT BirdPhoto Capture

You can also find the application under start -> program -> GBT BirdPhoto Capture.

If you drag the application form the start menu to your desktop it will also create a shortcut.

How do I add new birding spots?

Click on the grey button next to the birding spot drop down box.

I can't find Black-chested Prinia or Yellow-billed Hornbill in the list!

Make sure you don't leave the "-" character out of Black-chested Prinia. And try Southern Yellow-billed Hornbill

How can I quickly navigate a particular bird?

Just start typing the bird's name in the drop down box.

What is the Adhoc photo for?

This is a photo which the program will enable you to email it directly to GBT for the photo competition. The program will add all the data of the bird and sighting in the email automatically when you right click and select E-mail on that thumbnail. Look under the main menu: Configuration -> Personal Details.

Here you can customize your program. And the field: E-mail birds to is where the adhoc photo will be send to. Currently it only works for Microsoft Outlook and NOT for Outlook Express.

I can't open a saved version of my bird list report

Currently only QuickReports can open the report. This will be changed in the future to allow the file to be exported as an Excel spreadsheet.

Main Screen.

Function:
Adding photos.

-Capture bird information.
-Capture sighting information.
-Right click thumbnails to add photos.
-Double click thumbnails to view photos.
-Shortcuts to maintaining birding destinations.
-Access Main Menu.
-Right click Adhoc thumbnails to E-mail Adhoc photo. (Only functional with Microsoft Outlook!)
-Right click thumbnails to view photo details.
-The notes field is a rich edit field. Which means that you can type text in MS word and then copy it directly to this field. It will keep the fonts and letter size you've used in Word.

Personal Details Screen.

Function:
Setting up of program

-Capture personal user details
-Customize program
-Customize photo directory path
-Customize Export/Import

I am looking into the Vista compatibility issue at the moment Marcell.

The problem is not running it on Vista, but getting it installed on Vista! I've successfully installed it manually on Laine's Vista laptop and it works exceptionally well.

I will definitely ask you a couple of questions in order to get rid of this pesky problem. That's if you don't mind. wink

Important installation note:

If you have downloaded the Demo version. Please uninstall it before installing this production version. You can do that by going into Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and then looking for GBT BirdPhoto Capture.

Also make sure that all the program files got removed by navigating via Windows Explorer to c:\Program Files\ and deleting the GBT BirdPhoto Capture folder.
