just in...

New just in is that a GREY WAGTAIL has just been located at Debegeni Falls in Magoebaskloof. This is surely the same individual that has returned to this site every summer for the last few years.

Good luck if you are planning on chasing it!

Kind regards
Trevor

Re: Trevor Hardaker - UPDATES

Again I am in the wrong province. sadsad News just in!

Martin Benadie has just called in to let me know that they have located a PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER at Den Staat wetlands in Limpopo Province this morning. He has apparently photographed the bird and will send photos and further directions through to me later which I will hopefully be able to include in the report later this evening.

Both Mary de Wijn and Michal Groenewald have forwarded me photos of a PECTORAL SANDPIPER photographed at Mkhombo Dam in Mpumalanga on Saturday during Big Birding Day. Along with a host of other good birds including AFRICAN PYGMY GOOSE and RUDDY TURNSTONE which were also present on the weekend, this site definitely seems to be worth keeping an eye on. Further information and photos will be included in the report later.

Good luck if you are planning on chasing it and keep us updated!

Kind regards

Trevor

Robert Wienand is on site at Mkhombo Dam in Mpumalanga this morning and has just checked in confirming that he has relocated the PECTORAL SANDPIPER there as well as both the male AFRICAN PYGMY GOOSE and RUDDY TURNSTONE. These are all good birds, both from a provincial perspective, and for those of you stuck in your offices in Gauteng and who are within easy reach of possibly chasing these down, particularly the sandpiper which is bound to be a lifer for many.

Good luck if you are planning on chasing any of them and keep us updated!

Kind regards

Trevor

Robert Wienand has just made contact again confirming that he has now located at least 2 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS at Mkhombo Dam and has managed to photograph both of them together! As soon as he gets back to his computer, he will send me detailed directions on where exactly the birds are at the dam which I will post here once I receive them. However, if there are some of you out there who are going to suddenly develop a stomach bug or something else equally worthy of a “day off” and are planning to bunk work and hit the road immediately to chase after them, just drop me a line and I will pass on Robert’s contact number to you and you can then speak to him directly about where to go.

Get well soon…J

Kind regards

Trevor
