Re: 800 birds in a year. 2011 is the year

Go to Mozambique or Zim. wink

No, seriously, I know there are sightings from the Levhuvu River bridge from time to time. Check with Frank at the Pafuri picnic site if he has seen them recently. (LB Canary can be seen from the picnic site, foraging on the middle island, often together with YF Canaries). If you find it, let me know, I need it for my South African list.

I'll do so! wink

Is the Hyliota quite conspicuous? What is the best way of detecting it? By sound?

Thanks Niall.

Imagine a black and white Willow Warbler foraging. That's the Hyliota. They do not call that much, and are very active in the upper parts of the trees. Often found in mixed feeding flocks, with Tits, Crombecs, etc.

Tick tick tick.... year counter on 375... Ovambo Sparrowhawk added this morning.

Just to let you know what a wonderful start I had to my big birding year, I awoke on the 1st of Jan, ready to see which bird would be #1. And there he was, calling away, right above my tent!

Re: 800 birds in a year. 2011 is the year

I posted the same topic on Sanparks and SA Birdnet, the response so far has been pretty awesome. Thanks for the support of all you Trekkies too!

I have Woodland Kingfisher earning some support, as well as House Sparrow! The Kingfisher is very happy!

R3200 raised. Awaiting the Trekkie's magnanimous contributions! Bird list on 399 @ 23/1/2011. Who wants to sponsor bird #400!

Bank details amended on page 1 should anyone feel uncomfortable depositing into an account in my personal name.

Cheers

Niall.
