Re: Storm's Day at Work....

Ok... so I suppose you are all wondering where it is that I work.  I work in the hospital section at the World of Birds in Hout Bay - the largest bird park in Africa. We have everything from "cats and rats and elelphants"... ok well maybe not the elephants... but we are a wildlife sanctuary.

My posts on the forum will be short and sweet cause most nights I am very tired due to the fact that I have a very physical day. I will try and keep you up to date with what happens in the hospital.

Re: Storm's Day at Work....

Hi there. 2day was rather hectic but don't worry i'll leave out the boring stuff tongue
The penguin with me in my "mug shot" is Squirt. He is the eldest out of 6 blues (juvenile penguin).

The Fox and Meerkats u c in the pics with me r by far the cutest animals in the park tongue Foxy is a 9yr old Bat-eared fox who is shy but very loving. The 3 Kalahari meerkats r mother, father and son (Japie). Not 2 sure on their ages.
The meerkats took Foxy in as part of their family after her mate died.

The hospital recently became home 2 a 16yr old Rhesus Macaque. Her name is Kamakazi but we call her "Kazi". She has a LARGE abcess on her back sad

1 of our Reeves pheasants died from brain damage 2day. He was bullied by 1 of his "house mates", which is rather odd considering he was the largest & strongest bird in the aviary.

2day, all 8 of our "new comers" were donated.  3 of them r Chinese Geese and 5 r Barbary Doves. This was the 1st time I have ever seen these beautiful breeds.

I think thats enough 4 now smile  I'll be back soon. wink

Today was the first time I've heard of them. My teacher mentioned them in Biology while we were talking about blood groups hmm Terrible to hear about the abcess...

Re: Storm's Day at Work....

Hi all
Had another hectic day big_smile I am really tired so I appoligise in advance 4 any spelling mistakes I may make. I take after my mom when it comes 2 bad spelling.

Kazi's health isn't improving sad

We had 2 deaths 2day:( 1 was a Molucon Ibis. The other 1 was a Jardine parrot.
When I got into work this morning I found the parrot on its back with its head in the water bowl. I suspect that it may have been having fits during the nite.

4 black bunnies were donated. 2 of my penguin blues and 2 adult penguins were in a film shoot 2day. It is 4 some european advert.

I have a Red Fronted Conure with me in the hospital. His name is Montoya (I didn't name him). The only reason that he is in the hospital is because we can't find a suitable aviary 4 him, because he has already killed 3 other Conures & 2 cockatoos.

Candys Style I'm trying 2 get a pic of a Rhesus Macaque 4 you.

you're right Jay, I never have a boring day.

Thanks Storm big_smile It sounds like there is a lot of pros and cons in your job with the animals getting sick and (unfortunately) dying sad
