I agree, I am crazy lazy at the moment!

Will be along the Garden Route this weekend, so hopefully I will be able to get a couple of good birding sessions in. big_smilebig_smile

Re: Weekend Target Bird (2)

I am off on Thursday for 3 nights at Bonamanzi near Lake St. Lucia and then 2 nights at Giant's Castle. A member of our church heads up a birding tour company and needed help to drive a family from the US to Bonamanzi, then to the Drakensberg and then back to the airport for him. What an amazing opportunity this will be - especially the birding around Bonamanzi where I have a chance to pick up some of these potential lifers (surely breaking me through into the 600 "club"):
African Broadbill
African Grass-Owl
African Wood-Owl
Black Coucal (very slim chance I believe)
Crested Guineafowl
Eurasian Hobby
European Nightjar
Green Malkoha
Grey-rumped Swallow
Lemon-breasted Canary
Pel's Fishing Owl
Pink-throated Twinspot
Red-faced Cisticola
Rosy-throated Longclaw
Rufous-winged Cisticola
Sand Martin
Shelley's Francolin
Square-tailed Nightjar
Sooty Tern
Franklin's Gull
Green Barbet (if we get to Ngoye Forest)
Southern Banded Snake-Eagle
Red-fronted Tinkerbird

There is not much I can expect to see at Giant's Castle except for Broad-tailed Warbler if I am really lucky. Still, it is going to be incredible!!!

Jis, Mark, you are a very lucky man to have all this free time on your hands.

I think it is a bit early for European Nightjar and Eurasian Hobby, but good luck with all the others. big_smile

Thanks Laine. We will take it easy! Seeing new birds is cool, but not at the expense of one's life!!!

Re: Weekend Target Bird (2)

Enjoy Mark - I hope that you are able to get there with this bad weather.

I am going to be targeting a few lifers this weekend at Seringveld - hoping for Pale Flycatcher, Green-capped Eremomela, Yellow-throated Petronia and possibly Coqui Francolin smilesmile

Also hoping for a few more photo lifers like Fawn-coloured Lark and a few others.

Re: Weekend Target Bird (2)

Thanks Trevor. I believe the route we are taking via Middleburg and then on the N2 via Pongola to Bonamanzi should be fine. Thankfully we only head to Giant's Castle on Sunday - hopefully the snow has melted by then and all the birds are out enjoying the fair weather. smile

Coqui Francolin is quite common at the Roodeplaat Nature Reserve, Trev.
